DG Geoff Simpson | Guest Speaker |
Guest Speaker: Introduced by Ian Burrows. DG Geoff Simpson took the floor and provided some Rotary inspiration! DG Geoff congratulated PP Kel Wilson on our Presidential Citation for last year and was impressed with our club as being a particularly strong one. Strong clubs maintain membership through fun, fellowship and good meeting content. Club projects encourage member interest and lead to retention of members. Geoff was pleased too with our support for Foundation. On the wider stage, Rotary is involved in projects to improve water and sanitation, health and hunger in the Third World. Polio Plus has been an enormous project that has had a huge impact in the world. From 3000 cases per day to 1400 a year is a huge improvement, with only small pockets in Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan remaining. Bill Gates has pledged $350 million to help this cause. The next big challenge is Malaria!
Keith Brockwell thanks Geoff for his message |
DG Geoff and wife Margaret On the local scene, the Cord Blood Bank is well on target with only $400K left of the $6 million to raise, the Premier has pledged $150K and BHP has pledged $350K.
