Guest Speaker Introduction: Fred Pritchard is from South Africa, he started in lighting retail. He became the youngest branch manager in his company’s history at the age of twenty. He moved on to work for BEKA-Schrader a lighting manufacturer. He had the largest exports portfolio in the company servicing Australia, New Zealand, Seychelles, Mauritius, Central Africa, West Africa, Europe and China. His wife Jennifer moved to Australia and Fred moved nine months later when his visa was approved. He ran a community program in Geraldton called ROCK and when it finished he started working at John Willcock College as a Student Support Officer. Currently he coordinates the AIM (Ambition In Mind) program and is part of the Student Services team mentoring, counselling and running programs. He has a connection to Rotary, his father-in-law is a past president of the Batavia Coast, Chris Edwards. He played Reserves football for Towns, although he is more familiar with Rugby. His wife recently gave birth to their first child. Fred Pritchard AIM (Ambition in Mind) is a boy’s engagement program at John Willcock College. It is a way of dealing with the attendance challenges for indigenous boys. Fred helps them to develop life skills in the areas of English, Maths, Design & Technology and Health. In 2016 the attendance rate for indigenous boys at JWC was 34.57%. It is now up to 46.32%. AIM is mainly about developing life skills and the program can get adapted on a daily basis. It endeavours to transition boys back into mainstream education They are also involved in several ongoing projects that include rebuilding bicycles, camping and a city focussed program.
