9455 ROTARY DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S UPDATE MARCH 06/2019-2020 9455 Rotary District Events and COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
As the situation of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic unfolds on a daily basis, please be assured our Rotarymembers are at the forefront of our minds. Every day is changing and Rotary is prepared to adapt. Rotary District 9455 will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation. In reference to the Rotary District 9455 website, the message states that all District events have been cancelled. However, also contained in that message, I asked Clubs to change their method for meeting to avoid person to person contact. I know that many Clubs have already cancelled their Club meetings and they are looking at how they might meet, e.g. electronically through such apps as Zoom etc. While I have not heard from every Club, I am assuming that all Clubs in District 9455 have heeded my advice and your Boards have chosen not to hold face to face meetings for the foreseeable future. If any Clubs are still meeting in the traditional way, I urge you to resist from doing so and cancel any face to face meetings you may have planned or are planning. In response to the World Health Organisation and WA Health Department’s advice, along with the Prime Minister’s daily message, as a community it is imperative that we self-isolate, stay home and practice social distancing to minimise any close contact with our fellow community members for our own protection from the Covid-19 virus and reduce the infection curve.Advice is available as to how to set up Zoom to then be able to hold a 40-minute electronic meeting with your members. If Clubs are having problems downloading the Zoom app and for setting up an electronic club meeting, please contact Dave Taylor (Scarborough Club) or Wesley Sim (Perth Club) and they will walk you through the process to help you set up. I hope you understand why it is necessary to do this. |
On another thought, as a family you might set up a group ‘WhatsApp’ account so that all of your family can keep in touch with each other and chat. It is great fun. In the same way, the Perth Rotary Club Board have done the same thing, it is just like you are talking to everyone as if they were in the next room with the door open. Give it a go, I think you will like it. Take care of your family and all those close and dear to you.
Yours in Rotary
Graham Peden
