Crawford Lindsay

Chaplaincy in Geraldton Schools

LAURIE DINES reminded ROTARIANS that the YOUTH CARE Chaplaincy W.A. event would be held next SATURDAY, 6th. NOVEMBER and the ROTARIAN BBQ would be set up at 8am and operate between 9am and 2pm.    Members have been invited to assist and a list of equipment required has been circulated which will of course be returned after the event.  One of the main attractions will be a display of Vintage cars  and this will be well worth visiting!!

LAURIE also introduced Crawford Lindsay, CHAPLAIN of CHAMPION BAY SCHOOL who gave a short talk on the CHAPLAINCY involvement at our schools. Crawford advised that today’s CHAPLAINCY school support had changed and was provided to the students on a non-judgmental basis.   The CHAPLAINCY provided the opportunity for students to have someone to talk to when bullying was experienced at School;  Also HEADSPACE usually spend one day per week at CHAMPION and CHAPLAINCY can work with HEADSPACE on the major issues raised by the students.”

CRAWFORD also provided us with an unsolicited free promotion of the work done by RWADE ROTARIANS and course PRESENTERS for students taking part in this Driver education day!      BARRY was obviously impressed with his inspection of the ROAD TRAIN and where students get to sit behind the steering wheel and get some idea of the “blind spots “ the TROAD TRAIN driver must be aware of when driving his vehicle and the danger students must consider when overtaking ROAD TRAINS.       There are 6 PRESENTATION stations that the students visit around the Wonthella Sports Complex.

  •  POLICE                                  Road stats inc most at risk drivers
  • ST JOHNS AMB.                   HOW to assist when faced with injured travellers.
  • Road Train and stopping/Braking distances
  • MY WHEELS                       what to consider when buying your first car
  • HAZARDS, DISTRACTIONS RISKS       How to manage your safety when driving
  • CRASH SURVIVOR          A seriously disabled road accident PRESENTER tells his story!

The students that attend the RWADE presentation are our road COMPANIONS of tomorrow!        Good driving and road skills are worth sharing with our children!    If you cannot join us for the day; then please join us during your tea break…and be impressed!
