HMAS Sydney II Memorial | Guest Speaker |
There was no official guest speaker, but visiting Rotarian Kevin Green effectively took the role to inform us of the progress of the planned “Fifth Element” of the HMAS Sydney II Memorial. The Rotary Club of Geraldton is working hard to secure the funding for this project, having raised $250K of the expected $350K required. Excellent support has been received from Royalties for Regions, The City of G-G, and of course , the Rotary Clubs, and many other sources. The intention is not to start until all money is raised, so that the project is not left half finished. PM Kevin Rudd will be in town on Oct 1st for a Regional Federal Cabinet meeting and now that the Memorial has been declared one of National Significance, representatives will hopefully be meeting the PM and will be seeking Federal Support. The RC of Geraldton is looking for further in principle support from our club.

Rotarian Kevin Green There is no doubt the memorial has become an Icon for Geraldton and really has put the town on the map. (My fellow passengers on the Sun Princess in April raved about it, many being moved to tears.-ed) PP Ian Johnstone indicated that our club has strongly supported the project in the past and indicated the Board will take a close look at this.
