Alli Morgan wins Exceptional Student Award at Nagle College |
Exceptional Student Award Criteria This award recognises a student in Year 12 who is characterised by their overall commitment to doing their best in all aspects of their involvement at the College. They perform at a high level and reflect admirably the key values of the College through their personal conduct, academic pursuits, co-curricular involvement and leadership. Calrk said, "The student demonstrates a positive attitude, is willing to help others and makes selfless contributions. It is intended that the recipient is an ‘all rounder’, not necessarily the top student in each of the areas " Alli also sent us note outlining the positive effect of participating in the Four Way test Speaking Competion - "The Rotary 4 way speaking competition was a great opputunity for me to voice my opinion and gain confidence. Before I started the competition I was very shy and kept my opinions to myself. The support of my family, teachers and my coach Clarke; enabled me to strive to be the best speaker I could be. The postive feedback and support that I received was empowering and has allowed me to achieve all that I have in 2016. As Chairperson of Nagle’s RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) Committee in 2016, public speaking is a major obligation of my role. I can strongly concur that the Rotary Four Way Speaking Competition has helped me throughout my time at Nagle by allowing me to speak confidently when addressing the college, staff and other corporations. Asst Governor, Clark Scarff |
Alli Morgan with Rob Crothers and Aoife Kelly-Wixted at Nagle College, last year I have been required to speak at assemblies presenting ‘Acknowledgement to Country,’ speeches on NAIDOC Week and reading prayers at school mass. In addition, I have also had to give presentations to corporations such as Sinosteel, who provide funding for the Committee. Clark’s amazing coaching gave me the opportunity to embrace public speaking, rather than be afraid of it. I no longer see public speaking as a challenge but rather something that I enjoy. Not only has the Rotary Speaking Competition helped me when addressing a larger audience but also in the classroom where I have excelled in oral presentations. I would highly recommend and encourage other students to take part in the rotary competition because of the how much I have gained and grown as a person." Clark adds, "its comments like these that make me very proud to be part of Rotary. I think it is fair to say that Alli’s involvement in the Rotary Four Way Test Speech Competition has had a profound effect in her school life and will also be a great benefit as she moves forward after school life. It is very important to acknowledge that the whole club were part of this. There were many Rotarians that were involved. It is a club project."
