PP Lew formally introduced Dallas Bruce, Head of Science at GGS to speak on The Midwest Science & Engineering Challenge and also a Volunteer Science Research Expedition to Indonesia in July. The S & E Challenge comes out of the University of Newcastle in response to the government and industry push for STEM. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). The Challenge is open to all Midwest schools and has been fully subscribed. 17th May – Secondary Schools; 18th May – Primary Schools Teams are challenged in activities such as bridge building, designing a Mars-Rover, catapaults, making a bionic hand. Dallas presenting to the Club Volunteers are required to assist on both days. Can you help?? Science Research Expedition – Indonesia The expedition is in the July holidays and involves working with research scientists on remote islands counting endemic species. The students will be working in the jungle and on coral reefs to assist in protecting the biodiversity of these areas. A link to this project on youtube is: https://youtube/cQRW1rAgGZQ.
